Shapes and Pie

Dear Matt,
Tonight Jewell was quite discontent. I looked for everything to make her happy! Once I brought her Granimals ball out she settled down. In fact, she played with it forever. I took a few pictures for you. She's really trying to put the shapes in by herself :). I had to help her, but she really concentrated for quite a while. She also gets upset if all the shapes are in the ball and she doesn't have any to play with.

After I put Jewell down for the night, I made you an apple pie. I hope you can enjoy a piece when you get home from work tonight. I took a before and after picture of the pie for you.

Book Loving

Dear Matt,
You missed something cool tonight, so I thought I'd share :). Jewell was on the floor playing with her toys this afternoon, and then all of a sudden she scooted her way to her books. She started taking out books one by one, so I went to read them to her. Well babe, it may have taken her 12 and a half months to figure out the touch and feel books, but she certainly loves them now. I first read her a touch and feel book and she wouldn't stop touching the pages. Then, I read her a normal book and she kept getting upset because the pages were all the same. So, I finally just let her play with the books on her own. She picked another touch and feel book and turned the pages feeling them over and over again. It was absolutely adorable! She even had conversations with the books :). Here are a few pictures.

P.s. For those of you that wonder about the computer next to her...just ignore it, that's the only thing you can do if you marry a computer science major! ;)

An Ordinary Afternoon

Dear Matt,
We missed you tonight, but we are glad the Lord gave you another free lance job. I know you always enjoy using your computer talents with football :).

Good news: Jewell can finally take a nap at day care, on her tummy! Mrs. Chui said she sings herself to sleep. She is so cute.

After we left daycare today I took Jewell to the park. I took a few pictures on my phone. She enjoyed being pushed in the swing. We tried to play with the bigger equipment, but she isn't quite ready for that.

Once we got home we ate and enjoyed our nightly bath. It was the same as usual, lots of playing in the tub, and a devastating exit from the bath. Yes, she cried for quite a while after I took her out. Sorry for the cheap cell phone pictures...

Before bed Jewell only wanted to play with her new toy. I am so glad you insisted we buy this one for her :). It's definitely a new favorite. I know what you'll think when you see the picture, I should have used the Rebel and not my cell phone! ;)

You were missed tonight, but we know you love us. Thanks so much for working to help provide for our growing family.

Love,
Your two girls (and Little Bump)

Standing

Most of you know that we have really had to work with Jewell when it comes to mobility milestones. We've been practicing standing for months now. She's always needed support by leaning on us, or having us push her knees down. Today, I decided to do standing practice at the window so she can look out. I stood her up, and she stayed all by herself! I had to take a few pictures.

This was after our bath. We are waiting for Daddy to come home.

The Big 1

Today, Jewell had her first official birthday! We can't believe she's grown up so fast. It's hard to believe she's almost 20 lbs. A year ago, she was only 6 lbs and 13 oz.

Jewell has grown into such a toddler these last few months. She's basically out of the formula stage, and into whole milk. She still takes a bottle though! I'm not sure if she'll ever get into the sippy cup but we'll see.

Jewell can now say, "Mama, Dada, Daisy, and bounce." She tries to say other things, but it's more of a babble we can't understand. She is currently working on the word ball. And thinks that neigh (the horse sound) is laughing. It's adorable.

Jewell still takes 2, 2 hour naps, and enjoys her 12 hours of rest at night. I must say, I do enjoy a good sleeping baby. She's always so much happier when she gets her sleep.

Here is a picture of when we first brought her home, 1 year ago.

Happy (early) birthday

We had an early birthday party for Jewell this evening because her Aunt Bethany is going to be gone on a rotation on the 15th. We had a perfect little cake for her to have fun with. She enjoyed everyone singing happy birthday to her. After happily grabbing the corner of the cake she discovered that frosting sticks to her hand. This apparently was a tragic discovery that led to crying. We tried several times...even once on my lap, but she was not thrilled. She even tried wiping her hand off on my shirt. Thankfully she is a girl and therefore loves presents.
